| Lavender Fields evokes the richness of the growing season in Provence. The delicate shading creates the illusion of depth as the faraway hills yield to fields, village and manor house surrounded by trees, using a variety of threads unified by repetition of color and shape. As you stitch you can almost smell the fragrance of the lavender. The elegant painted canvas by the talented Sharon G is an integral part of the design, showing through the stitches and creating a depth of color rarely seen in this medium. Stitches include laid filling stitches, open needlework stitches, darning patterns, a variety of knots and other textured stitches. Worked on a Sharon G painted canvas (18 count), the class focuses on using threads and stitches to interpret shading on a painted canvas. The completed design size is 9" x 13". Student will supply 14" and 18" stretcher bars (Evertite bars recommended but not required), size 20, 22 and 24 tapestry needles, a laying tool, scissors and usual stitching supplies. The class includes a detailed stitch guide mailed to you, plus a full-size color photocopy of the piece and email lessons. Canvas and thread kits are also available or you may purchase them from your local needlework shop. Although Sharon does not sell retail, she does provide a list of shops that carry her canvases. Threads in the optional thread kit include 36 luxurious silk, metallic and cotton threads, including Bijoux, Needle Necessities overdyed pearl #8, Wildflowers, Soie d'alger, Soie Cristale, Impressions, Waterlilies, Pearsall's silk, Watercolours, Burmilana, Anchor floss, DMC floss, Soie perl ée and Kreinik #8 metallics. In most cases, small amounts of each thread were used, so the kit contains partial skeins to keep the cost reasonable. Carole will provide a complete thread list if you prefer to kit your own; all threads are readily available at a well-stocked needlework shop.
