Information: Canvas Stitch Notebook: Straight Stitches is the second of four stitch notebooks that will be offered as CyberClasses at www.needleartworks.com. This is the ultimate needlepoint reference, better than any stitch book you can buy, because you will have (if you keep up!) stitched samples of every stitch! You can start with any of the four notebooks and work your way to a wonderful stitch reference set in just one year.

The Straight Stitch Notebook contains over 90 stitches. The class material, which you will receive by mail, contains clear stitch charts, instructions for assembling your notebook, suggested supplies, and an extensive bibliography of books on stitches for canvaswork.

In addition, you will be able to access color stitch samples of every stitch on the website.

The class consists of 6 lessons by email, which will arrive once every two weeks for the duration of the class. The lessons will contain information for your notebook about each stitch, with particular reference to its use in canvas embroidery (needlepoint). This will include the history of the stitch, alternate names, where this stitch is useful, types of threads appropriate for the stitch, and more.

Additional classes will be offered here: Canvas Stitch Notebook #1: Diagonal Stitches; Canvas Stitch Notebook #3: Crossed and Interlaced Stitches;and Canvas Stitch Notebook #4: Specialty Stitches. You may take these classes in any order, until you have your full set of four volumes of the notebook.

Class Length: 12 weeks. Next class starts September 15

Level: All levels. Should know Continental and Basketweave stitches. Must have a working email address and the ability to access the WWW to see the visual aids posted there.

Fees: $30US/$35 international to register for the class. This includes your stitch pages (and postage to mail them to you), email lessons, email assistance and access to the class website. Critiques by the teacher will be available at the end of the class at an additional charge. Click here to register

Materials: (supplied by student) Canvas and an assortment of threads from your stash, needles, stretcher bars or other frame. A detailed list of suggestions will be provided by the teacher. Cost will depend on what threads you can use from your stash, but the primary cost will be the canvas. You can use any 18 ct. mono canvas, colored or white. You don't even have to have all the same color (think of how fun it would be to use a different color for each page?). You will need 12 pieces of canvas cut 9" x 12". The most economical alternative is to buy 2/3 yard white mono canvas, 54" wide (cut 24" all the way across the bolt). If you used colored canvas, which only comes in a 40" width, you will need 1 yard. It is definitely more economical to buy the canvas by the yard and then cut it yourself than to buy individual 9" x 12" pieces.

The teacher does not sell supplies, and you are encouraged to purchase from your local needlework shop or from the shops on the www.needleartworks.com website. However, if you experience problems finding your supplies, the teacher can provide a list of reliable mail order sources.
