GMD22: Cloisonne Butterflies |

Enjoy creating a triptych of brightly colored fanciful butterflies. This trio is stitched in Anchor six-stranded cotton in values of magenta to antique rose, lavender to violet, surf blue to sea green. Touches of gold Balger braid, Balger blending filament and Fil d'Or add sparkle and elegance. A multicolor diagonal Florentine stitch enhances a pair of wings; a padded body in Van Dyke stitch and an eight-sided Rhodes stitch used for the head give dimension. The inner portion of the lower wings is stitched in Battlement Couching. All portions of the butterflies are outlined in gold couching. The butterflies are on a diamond shaped lattice of colorful tiny Smyrna Cross and Eyelet flowers. The dark background which is worked in a Pavilion stitch variation creates a background foil for the colorful butterflies. Couched stitches and a five color diagonal plaid are used. Sashing, combining six-stranded cotton and metallic, separates the elements of the design. A Waffle stitch brings together all of the colors in multihued corner blocks. |
