GMD4: French Nosegay |

Inspired by a French Nosegay quilt, four canvasquilt blocks of quaint old-fashioned colors and designs are worked on a ground of #18 mono eggshell canvas. The harmonious combination of the various cotton fibers and the variety of stitches expresses clearly on canvas a lovely French Nosegay. Canvaswork techniques include composite stitches, composed of several colors and values which recreate the effect of calico fabric. Pattern couching and surface stitchery on canvas add contrast in texture. An unusual canvaswork stitch simulates the crinkled paper wrapper of the nosegay. A subtle quilted effect is created in the border. There are two light nosegays and two dark nosegays. |
