CJAT10: Golden Butterfly Introduction to Japanese Embroidery |
An Irish Blessing |
Many stitchers are curious and sometimes a little intimidated about the Japanese embroidery classes at Callaway. Our students believe that this one-day class will help dispel misconceptions and give a better understanding why they are so enthusiastic about and challenged by the needle art. The design incorporates five Japanese embroidery techniques (Japanese running stitch, line of staggered diagonals, couching and laying a weft and a horizontal foundation). The class will include an overview of the embroidery phases, a brief description of the 1600 years of embroidery tradition, and a visit to the Callaway Exhibit to discuss the displayed Japanese embroidery pieces. All three teachers, Jennifer, Rena, and Sylvia, will be in class to assure personal attention and instruction. Golden Butterfly is a quick and easy design to stitch. The design will fit into a small frame or glass container. Student to take to class: Usual stitching supplies including a laying tool and scissors; light and/or magnification and extension cord; pillowcase or other covering to protect the framed piece for the trip home. |
