A challenge for the most sophisticated stitcher, the kikko is one of the most beautiful symbols in Japanese embroidery. It is unfortunate that it has remained such a stitching mystery. Because of its interlocking geometric shape, it is essential that all the lines are accurate. When the design elements are put on the ground fabric before framing up, the kikko forms are often distorted.
