| Luan B. Callery LBC10: A Trio of Butterflies – a Stumpwork Embroidery |
![]() |
Three butterflies worked in relief form an interesting and realistic picture. The reeds in the background are worked with cotton floss or silk threads of the stitcher's choice. The butterflies are partially worked on the background fabric. The wings are worked on muslin using wire along the edges. After being cut from the muslin, the wings are attached to the back ground fabric with the wire. Follow the designated colors or use colors of your choice. The master pattern is as pictured, but the butterflies could be arranged as desired. This sample shows a 5” x 8” oval mat, but a rectangle or a shadow box frame works just as well. The detailed chart pak includes instructions and diagrams for each stitch, placement of color and stitches, and how to attach the wings to the ground fabric—everything you need to create this lifelike butterfly composition. |
