MSS5: Hardanger Book |
|
|
This booklet, Hardanger, contains simple, step by step text and diagrams. Students will find this booklet a stepping stone to master the techniques I use for Hardanger embroidery. Traditionally geometric in design, this lace-like, counted thread embroidery is used on the bunad (regional costume) of Hardanger on the western coast of Norway...on apron, collar and cuffs. It was also used to decorate tablecloths, runners, placemats, cushions and curtains. Despite its delicate appearance, it is very durable and has many contemporary applications. Worked on even weave fabric, white on white is considered traditional. To maintain the appearance of lace, use a matching color of thread, a tone lighter than the fabric, or white. However, feel free to be venturesome, even trying overdyed thread.
