| A twirling vine of berries and a rather plump bee brings to mind the idyllic summer days of yore. The background is Graziano plain weave linen, an exceptionally high quality fabric from Italy that is hand-dyed by Lakeside Linens. Stitched with Heathway hand-dyed crewel yarns, Pearsall's silk and Gumnuts Poppies (a silk/wool blend). This lovely scene is featured in an Olde Colonial Pencil Box but could easily be used as a frame weight or pin cushion. . The kit includes linen with design, all threads, needles, four-color instruction booklet and a detailed Stitch Glossary along with hints on perfecting your crewel embroidery. A hoop with deep sides, stretcher bars, or (best of all) a slate frame are recommended to keep your work drum tight while stitching, a real necessity when doing crewel. This design utilizes the Royal School of Needlework technique of mounting your linen onto muslin for an even sturdier base for your stitching. It's easy to do and the results are marvelous. |
