When I was a little girl, my mother put a threaded needle in my hand and taught me to sew. As the years went by she continued to encourage me to try new and different techniques. There have been many avenues I have followed through the years, but the ultimate experience was when I was introduced to silk and metal embroidery in 1979. Oh, the soft and pliable feel of beautiful silk threads combined with the glow of metallics. I fell in love! After attending classes with national teachers, I began a Silk and Metal group in my local EGA chapter. They had no idea what they were getting into. What fun it was to pass on the knowledge that I had gained and helping other stitchers perfect their skills. We had a wonderful time exploring this new technique. I also had the privilege of teaching in other chapters and Regional Seminars around the State of Florida. In 1990 I began the study of Japanese Embroidery techniques and completed all five of the phases presented at Callaway. The love of Japanese Embroidery stays with me as I work on independent pieces. There are other things I enjoy doing, but the sheen of the silk still fascinates me. I will continue this love affair as long as God gives me eyes to see and hands to use in creating works of art.
