Bettye Hill

Bettye began her exploration of Japanese Embroidery in 2002 at Callaway Gardens School of Needlearts. She has studied with both Jennifer Ashley Taylor and Shay Pendray. She has completed Seasons (Phase I), Cascading Chrysanthemums (Phase II), Kimono Ribbons (Phase III), Petite Pansies (Phase IV)and the Hiogi Fan - below. Bettye is currently working on the Sake Box.

Two years prior to beginning Japanese Embroidery, Bettye began doing needlepoint. Althea DeBrule was her first teacher and the catalyst to her initiating the study of Japanese embroidery.

Bettye loves the rich culture and discipline of Japanese embroidery. In her effort to improve her stitching, she has made a commitment to stitch at least 15 to 20 minutes each day. She sets goals for herself for specific areas of focus, for example, working on tension or the proper angle on the petal. She also enjoys researching the meaning of symbols and motifs used in this art form.
