Cyber Class Proficiency Levels The patterns and projects featured in this website are written to be self-directed and the Proficiency Levels are to be used as a general reference. BASIC 1. Can thread a needle and can tie on and off correctly. 2. Can work tent stitch (half cross, continental, and/or basketweave). 3. Can read and work from diagrams and charts. BASIC INTERMEDIATE 1. Can work diagonal tent stitch (basketweave) beginning at a corner or curved line and understands basic compensation. 2. Can work at least six (6) different decorative stitches. 3. Understands and works from stitch diagrams and charts with confidence. INTERMEDIATE 1. Possesses skills outlined in previous levels. 2. Has stitched with a variety of threads such as cotton, wool, silk, synthetics, linen and metallics, and is familiar with the characteristics of these threads. 3. Can confidently work complicated stitches from diagrams and is comfortable with compensation. 4. Can work at least four different techniques on a counted ground, such as: Pulled Thread, Pattern Darning, Bargello, Blackwork, free stitchery, Beading, introductory silk and metal thread techniques, Hardanger and mixed media ADVANCED INTERMEDIATE 1. Possesses skills outlined in previous levels. 2. Can stitch with a variety of threads such as cotton, wool, silk, synthetics, linen and metallics, and is familiar with the characteristics of these threads. 3. Can work a wide variety of techniques on a counted ground which may include: Applique, attaching found objects, Cut Work, Raised Work, Needlelace, Needle Weaving, laying silk and stranded threads and Couching. 4. Can confidently stitch diagonal patterns. ADVANCED 1. Possesses skills outlined in previous levels. 2. Has an interest in developing skills and pursuing solutions to problems in design, color, and techniques. 3. Has an interest in developing original designs, colors and/or style.
